Field research in the arid zone
Field research in the arid zone of western New South Wales now drives several evolving series that distil desert light, elemental colour, and the slow cadence of endurance. Guided by essentialism and balance, Valeriia often gravitates toward tactile media such as paper—yet she remains fluid, letting each project dictate its own material vocabulary. Her pared-back forms and measured, manual processes keep the dialogue between body and medium visible.
Part of this ongoing research will be shown during Studio Art Practice 5 Open Studios at UNSW Paddington on 24 April 2025. Valeriia is currently completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at UNSW Art & Design, and her work has been exhibited in Sydney and regional NSW and is held in private collections across Australia and Europe.
